One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Here is one of my original thumbnails, from a selection I chose this idea to develop into a cover.
As you can see there have been various changes and developments along the way.

So this was my final entry to the Penguin Design Award.... Combining both printmaking and digital technology. This was obviously an uneasy task as printmaking takes much time and planning. I also find that once I  convert a purely hand rendered and crafted piece of work into a digital file, a new perfectionist kind of view of my work appears. Daunting me with new worries and issues that I had never considered before, but I think that this is all down to the sudden unrestrained freedom found in using a computer. However I am pleased with the simplistic design, and hope that it conveys what I was initially attempting to achieve. I added colour after etching, using the offset machine, which was very exciting and efficient... once I had made the stencils!!
Thanks for taking an interest :)

Etching

Here goes (went) my first post (before I re-posted it)...... really enjoyed our etching workshop at the end of the first year at Uni. Found the process was a little more lengthy than anticipated, although enjoyable and yielded some good results for a first attempt :) I love the unintentional scratchy marks in the background, adding age and character to the VW Beetle.

Thanks for reading x
